BAKER CITY, OREGON__Are you yearning for the smell and taste of camp cooking? The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center near Baker City invites you to learn the basic techniques of outdoor cooking using the versatile Dutch-oven, in a series of workshops. The workshops are lead by instructors from the Trail Tenders, the organization known for historic cooking demonstrations and Dutch-oven dinners at the Trail Center. The Trail Tenders use recipes and research from pioneer days, and local sources for ingredients.

Participants will learn how to select, prepare and care for cookware, how to convert historic recipes, determine cook times, control fire temperatures, and adjust for weather and altitude conditions. Each class member receives a book of recipes, and acquires the skills to start on the joy of outdoor living and dining. Participants cook and eat at the Trail Center’s outdoor Wagon Encampment.
